The Questions

I had a post all ready that was deep and thoughtful and heart-pulling, and then I thought HOLY COW! Today is Friday! It’s the day of the week people are most harried. They’re tying up their work week, making plans for the weekend, getting home, thinking forward, looking back. It takes a great deal of shifting energy. So to be gentle with all of us, I’m going to keep it short and sweet today. The topic is simple and can be answered lightly, or you can dwell with it some time and go deep. Up to you.Yesterday Jeannie mentioned that the topic of “seeing” raised questions for her she couldn’t yet answer. And Rainer Maria Rilke’s words sprang to my mind:

“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”

So this post is a question about the questions themselves.

What remains unresolved in your heart? What question are you living today? If there is an issue that has the power to wake you up at night, or distract you during the day, what is it?

Im really not looking for answers. I believe we’ll live our way into them. I’m more looking to COMPANION the questions, by bringing them into the circle.

Here’s one of mine: “How do I treat myself as I age?”

How do I treat my body, it’s changing appearance and stamina? How do I treat my thoughts, as they tend to focus on what I’ve lost rather than what I’ve found? How do I open further to a love that springs internally rather than externally, freeing me to care for myself the way I would my puppy, a grounded bird, or an orphaned baby mouse?

I’m not kidding when I say these questions wake me up at night. They intrigue me, but they also haunt me. I’m living with the questions and trying to love them, rather than resist them.

What question are YOU living today?
